Film Institutions: The Mini-Major Movie Studios

Dreamworks animation

Dreamworks have grown to be successful, they usually make films aimed at a younger audience, and have done very well in this field. Dreamworks films include: 'How to train your dragon', 'Kung Fu Panda', and 'Madagascar'.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

MGM have experienced financial problems in recent years, and so haven't really been releasing anything, although they are mostly known nowadays for the 'James Bond' franchises and many more, which they believe will restore their fund. As well as the others, they create a wide range of films across a vast amount of genres to maximise their audience such as: 'Rocky' and 'Nanny McPhee'.

Lionsgate Entertainment

Lionsgate are the most successful independent film distributed company. they tend to specialise in making action films, or remakes of horror films. they are well known for 'The Hunger Games' and 'Saw'.

The Weinstein Company

Formed by the Weinstein brothers, The Weinstein Company are a very recent company; only formed in 2005, despite this, the work that it has done already is very successful. Weinstein films include: 'The King's Speech', 'The Fighter' and 'The Iron Lady'.

Relativity Media

Relativity media is a low-key studio, only founded in 2004, but is still growing. They have a lot more growing to do, and they have not made many films that have received great critical acclaim. Their films include: 'Bridesmaids', 'Limitless' and 'The Social Network'.
